My practice begins with painting, but painting no longer contained within the canvas. What happens when a painted surface releases itself from the wall and enters the space around it? The boundary between painting, drawing, sculpture, architecture, and the body begins to dissolve. By suspending the canvas, opening its edges, and allowing threads, ropes, nails, light, sound, and moving images to extend beyond its surface, understanding space itself as another material for painting. Drawing followed this movement: a mark on paper, a line travels through air, connects distances, crosses the thresholds, occupies the space between things. Layers of transparency became another form of seeing, what is present and what is hidden coexist, projection and sound introduced time, movement, the possibility of an image appearing and disappearing, Work gradually becomes an investigation of transmission, of traces moving between bodies, places, memories, landscapes. In this sense, Signals From The Ruins extends the language of painting beyond the physical limits of the studio: a signal is sent outward, toward the sky and the unknown, returns are not necessarily answers, but traces, a vibration, an image, a fragment of light, a memory. Painting becomes a means of sending, receiving, connecting, and making visible the spaces between what we know and what remains beyond our reach.
